Network Segmentation & Secure Routing Gateway

Designed and deployed an Ubuntu based firewall and routing gateway to isolate home devices from a dedicated server cluster network providing sercure traffic control, network seperation and reliable infrastructure connectivity.

01. OVERVIEW

A dedicated ubuntu Server was configured as a network gateway to seperate personal devices form a critical private infrastructure environment. The solution provides a controlled communication between isolated networks through firewall rules, routing policies and traffic filtering while maintaining a reliable internet access for wired server systems.

02. METHODOLOGY

  • Network Isolation: Created a seperate network zones for home devices and server infrastructure to reduce exposure and control communication paths.
  • Linux routing and NAT: Configured Ubuntu Server as a gateway to provide internet access for Ethernet-based servers through a wireless uplink while maintaining internal network separation.
  • Firewall Policy Management:Implemented traffic filtering rules to control allowed communication between networks and restrict unnecessary access.
  • Infrastructure Connectivity:Designed the network foundation to support virtualization platforms, Linux servers, and future VLAN-based expansion.
